Pipers' Ceilidh

What a treat to have Fred Morrison and Paddy Keenan both returning to the festival this year and both playing in the Pipers’ Ceilidh. Fred and Paddy are universally regarded as two of the greatest pipers in Scottish and Irish tradition, and although their touring schedules keep them busy, they love the chance to share tunes together when they can. We’re also excited to see Kenneth MacKenzie, Mac Morin and first time festival performer Joe MacMaster on this stage. Great work is being done with youth here in Cape Breton, and Kenneth is a great mentor for young Joe. We’re really excited to feature the diverse sounds of the pipes on this afternoon at the Gaelic College. The Pipers’ Ceilidh is always a popular concert. Be sure to book your tickets early for this one. Hosted by Colaisde na Gàidhlig / The Gaelic College

What an incredible gathering in Whycocomagh tonight! The String Sisters, with their full band making the group ten in all, have been on our wish list at Celtic Colours for many years so we’re delighted that they are finally here. And this will be our first chance to see a solo set by amazing hardanger fiddle player Annbjørg Lien from Norway. Siblings Troy, Kendra and Sabra MacGillivray will be here with fiddles, piano, bodhran and dancing. They’re all celebrating tonight because it happens to be Kendra’s birthday and the three don’t get together as often as they’d like. The String Sisters and the MacGillivrays have met earlier in the festival and we’re curious to see what tunes they may have picked up from each other. The incomparable Buddy MacDonald wouldn’t miss this gathering with his old pals the MacGillivrays. But don’t worry, we’ll get him back to the Festival Club in time for the late night fun. Hosted by Whycocomagh Volunteer Fire Department

Venue - Whycocomagh Education Centre - 50 Norman McLeod Road, Whycocomagh, NS, Canada
