Culture is kept alive by passing traditions down through generations and among family members. This is particularly evident on Cape Breton Island where young and old alike take advantage of every opportunity to gather for music and dance, whether at a local square dance or in a ceilidh at someone’s home. And sometimes, without specifically trying, the older generations become mentors to those around them. Tonight we showcase a few of these honoured, often unintentional, mentorships that have been so important to our culture as we meet the masters, and the current generation who are carrying the torch.
