During the first Celtic Colours in 1997, we featured a tribute to the tradition of dance music for the highland bagpipes as played by community pipers on Cape Breton Island. Dance to the Piper was dedicated to Alex Currie, who embodied this tradition, and the concert recognized a resurgence in popularity of this style of playing among a younger generation of pipers. Alex Currie passed away not long after that concert, but the style of playing he represented lives on and the annual Pipers' Ceilidh has become one of Celtic Colours' most popular concerts. This afternoon we'll examine the Currie influence both in Cape Breton and in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, as we celebrate Alex and Duncan Currie
